hollis d. walker nature photographer
Hollis Walker moved to western North Carolina after retirement in 2001. His nature photography began just a few years ago but was cultivated in his growing up years in north Louisiana where he was born. His father was a forester who had a love of the outdoors and passed on much forest-lore to his sons.
Hollis has a simple objective in his photography: “God is the ultimate artist and his handiwork is unsurpassed in beauty and detail. I strive to convey in the photo image the resolution and splendor of the natural world that we have been blessed with.”
Having no formal training but inspired by Bill Lea and the late Bud Uffelman. Lea’s skill in shooting the wildlife and nature scenes of the Smokies is unsurpassed and Uffelman’s knack of composition displayed a real gift.
Hollis sometimes delves into modernistic or abstract photography but will always favor the natural world as his subject.
